Mr and Mrs W. Warburton left, this morning, for Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. O’Donnell left, today, on return to Dunedin. Miss D. Learmont left, this morning, for Christchurch. “ Miss J. Twomey, of Christchurch, will arrive in Greymouth on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. McClelland, Shakespeare Street, have been advised that their son Brian, of the R.N.V.R., in England, has been promoted to Lieutenant. The death occurred at Dunedin yesteray afternoon of Dri William Newlands. Until recently he was a member of the Medical Council ol New Zealand. He served on many public bodies. He is survived by his widow and five members of his family.—P.A. Mr T. W. M. /kshby has been appointed Town Clerk of Auckland, and Mr. A. J. Dickson, Auckland City Engineer. Mr. Asiiby has been city treasurer and Mr. Dickson assistant eiry engineer in recent years. The appointments were macle yesterday by the Auckland City Council.—PrA. An Auckland nurse, who has served in Syria, Egypt, Tripoli and Italy, ' was married at the King’s Chapel of the Savoy, London, on May 13. She ; was Monica Joyce Lamont. Her husband is Captain K. A. H. Read, of Gerrard’s Cross, Buckinghamshire, of the Eighth Army, who was wounded in Tobruk and later took part in the Salerno landing. They met lor the first time at the wedding of Captain F. Stewart, of Wellington. and Nurse P. Lavin, in Syria (stated a cablegram from Lndon).
