FAT cattle cheaper

CHRISTCHURCH, March 23. An over-supply of fat cattle resulted in a sharp drop in prices over the final stages of the sale at the Addington Market, yesterday, when fat sheep maintained their good demand. Store sold well at recent rates. Store Sheep.—Lambs: The best price was 29/6 for a pen of Romney pwp lambs, and others of the 'same breed made up to 25/6. The best of the half-bred section also made up to 25/6. The highest figure for wether lambs was 24/3 for a pen of Peninqiila sheep. Values were: Best ewe lambs, 25/6 to 29/6, good 23/4 to 24/3’ best wether lambs up to 24/3, "ood 20/6 to 22/10, medium 18/- to 19/6, and small 12/6 to 14/6. Fat Lambs. —With the exception of a few pens, including a consignment from the West Coast, the yarding mostly comprised lambs of freezing quality and these sold firmly at schedule rates. The highest figure, 35/7, was secured by J. Condon, Maintain, West Coast, whose draft of 85 ranged from 25/10 to that figure. Values were: Prime lambs 31/10 to 35/7, good 27/7 to 30/10, medium 22/4’ to 25/4, light and unfinished 18/- to 21/7. Fat Sheep. —Although the yarding mostly comprised ewes of varying quality, there were more wether forward than at recent sales, and these met with a ready disposal. Extra prime wethers, to 40/7.
