SWIMMING

N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS.

AUCKLAND, January 19. . The Olympic Pool at Newmarket was packed to-night when the carnival opened for the 1944 New Zealand amateur swimming championships, and throughout the programme competition was keen with some exciting finishes. No New Zealand records were broken, but the intermediate grade,. in both boys’ and girls’ events, provided a high standard of swimming. The outstanding feature of the evening was the success in the 100 yards ladies’ breaststroke championship of Miss M. Pasalich (Auckland), who defeated Miss W.
