OPERATIONS IN BURMA

RUGBY, January 19. R.A.F. divebombers continued the attacks on enemy positions near Buthidaung, while fighters made machinegun attacks, states the Southeast Asia Headquarters at New Delhi. Sweeps along the Kaladan and Mayu Peninsula continued and rivercraft were successfully attacked. In Northern Burma large formations of the United States heavy and medium bombers attacked Japanese troops in camp in the hills north-west of Pantha. R.A.F. fighters in sweeps from Sagaing to Yeu damaged rivercraft and warehouses, while dive-bombers and fighter-bombers raided positions on the Upper Chindwin. On Monday R A.F. medium bombers attacked objectives at Mandalay, Sagaing and Mogaung. No Allied aircraft is missing from these operations. Sixteen enemy aircraft were destroyed in Saturday’s battle over Mayu Peninsula.
