DUKE OF WINDSOR

TIRING OF BAHAMAS

NEW YORK, Nov. 21. The North American Newspaper Alliance says: It is reported that the Duchess of Windsor is urging the Duke to buy a farm in the Eastern United States, and to settle down as a country squire. The Duke is said to be retiring from the governorship of the Bahama Islands. It is known that he recently declined the post of Governor of Bermuda. His friends say that the Duke is unhappy in the Bahamas and feels that he now has accomplished all he can for the colony. The Duke and Duchess are now returning to the Bahamas from NewYork, after an absence of eight weeks. A spokesman for the Duke of Windsor denied the report that His Highness is retiring shortly from the governorship of the Bahama Islands. He added that the Duke was entirely at the disposal of the British Government for the duration. He was willing to serve in any war-time role at the request of His Majesty, or his old friend Mr. Churchill. However, the Duke, in the final analysis, regarded himself as a free agent, and as master of his fate. He does not expect to spend the rest of his life in the Bahamas. He does not think that the climate there is suitable for all the year round residence, but he is not planning to buy a farm in the United States.
