Big Investments: A large sum was lost very quickly at the National Meeting when Platform was put out of the contest for the Islington Handicap in the first furlong. He carried slightly more than £1650 on the win machine, and close on £l5OO on the place machine. The second choice, Donnybrook Fair, carried about £l,220 for a win and about £1450 for a place but in his case, he gave his supporters something for their money as he was in the fighting line up to the closing stages. Another failure in the race, Boloyna, carried about £lOOO and £l3OO. The biggest amount entrusted to any one horse at the meeting was slightly more than £lBBO for a win on Hearth in the concluding event.
