Mrs D. Wallace, Stillwater, returned from Auckland on Saturday.

Miss K. Kilgour left, this morning, for Christchurch.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Neilson, Cobden, have received advice that' their son, Private J. Neilson, is safe and well in the Middle East.

Mr. J. O’Brien (Minister for Transport) arrived in Greymouth on Saturday. He visited Hokitika to-day and will leave to-morrow on return to Wellington.

A London cablegram announced the death of Rear-Admiral J. C. Demeric who served in the New Zealand Division for about four years. He died after collapsing at his desk at the Admiralty.

Miss C. Hickson, who has been in charge of the Grey district office of the A.M.P. Society during the absence of the District Manager, Mr. B. J. Millar, on military duty, left, this morning, on return to Wellington. Mr. Millar has returned to the charge of the Greymouth office.

Prior to her departure from Greymouth Sister M. Rae who is joining the Army Nursing Service was met by members of the women’s branch •?f the Greymouth Patriotic Society and presented with a leather attaches ease. The presentation was made' by Mrs. F. A. Kitchingham.

A London cablegram announced that the wife of Wing-Commander C. E. Malfroy, D.F.C., of Wellington. former Davis Cup tennis player, has given birth to a daughter. Mali’roy is now Chief Flying-Instructor at a training station. This is his second daughter.

The death occurred at Nelson on Thursday, of Mrs. Catherine Douglas, wife of George Douglas, aged 56 years. Deceased was a native of Stafford, and resided at Greymouth for the greater part of her life, until recent years when she resided at Onakaka. Besides her husband she is survived by seven daughters, Mesdames A. Morrison (Dovedale). M. Skelton (Onakaka), A. Bain (Kaikoura), W. Paterson (Takaka), R. Potts (Lower Hutt, R. Vickers (Johnsonville) and Miss A. Douglas (Takaka), also one son, George Douglas (Wakefield), two sisters, Mrs. J. Stevens (Nelson), and Mrs. J. Beardsley (Cobden) and four brothers, David (Auckland), William (Petone), Andrew (Christchurch) and Robert (Cobden). Mi’s. R. Johnston (Cobden) is a sister-in-law.
