FASHION PARADE

REGENT THEATRE SUCCESS

In aid of patriotic funds a fashion parade, under the auspices of White’s Fashion Corner, was held in the Regent Theatre last evening. There was a packed house, and with leading vocalists and other artists contributing to the programme, the entertainment was highly successful, both artistically and financially. During the interval various raffles which have been conducted for patriotic funds were drawn under police supervision. The parade comprised an outstanding array of Winter coats and frocks, costumes, afternoon frccks, semi-dinner frocks, wedding gowns, evening frocks and furs, the mannequins being Mesdames Russell, Thurlow, Mclntosh and Cooper, Misses G. Foster, J. Parfitt, J. Walker, R. Peillon and C. O’Neill, with Misses J. Bluett and M. Low as flower girls in the wedding group. Mrs C. E. Broad was commentator for the parade, Mr D. Langley commenting on the furs, and Mrs E. Parfitt pianist, while Mrs R. T. Bush arranged the bouquets. Bags were provided by Kilgour’s, necklets and other jewellery by Sutherland’s, and shoes by Tate’s. Mr S. B. White thanked the public for their patronage, all who assisted in ensuring the success of the parade by supplying accessories, the mannequins, his own staff, the management and staff of the Regent Theatre and the artists.

Items were contributed by Mesdames H. Prescott and B. Dumpleton, Misses Sansom, S. Dowell, M., and E. Cawley, pupils of the Miriam Trott School of Dancing, Messrs E., and H. Boote, and T. Hatch and Miss M. Cawley’s orchestra. The accompanists were Mesdames Prescott and Best and Misses K. Gieseking and M. Cawley. PRIZE WINNERS The winners of the various raffles drawn during the evening were:— Miss W. Perotti’s section, No. 11421, Miss A. Hamer, Kumara. Dinner set, No. 3459, Mr E. Hollinger, Gieymouth. Writing desk, No. 2179, Mrs E. McFarlane, Hokitika. Five screen, No. 2782, Mrs T. Goldsmith, Chapel Street, Greymouth. The Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchmgham) returned thanks on behalf of the Patriotic Committee. He thanked Mr WR.te for arranging the parade, all the artists who appeared during the evening, and the public for their support, Miss W. Perotti for the donation of the section, Mr White for donating the writing desk, Mrs Gore for her donation of the fire screen, and Norton’s for a donation of icecream, which was sold free of charge by Mr W. Holley and staff, realising £5/9/-. He said that tickets sold for the parade amounted to £B7/13/6, and that the raffle for the section netted approximately £4OB/15/-, made up as follows:—Street sales, £242/4/-, patriotic depot £96, Grey County £32/1/-, and women collectors £2B/10/-. He mentioned that the Patriotic Committee had launched a United Nations Fair to be held in August and urged the public to give their fullest support to the effort to ruse the £lO,OOO which was the aim of the Committee.
