Miss B. Buxton returned, this morning, to Christchurch.

The engagement is announced of Joyce, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Friend, Cobden, to Clifford, second son of Mr and Mrs T. Moseley, of Cobden.

Mr. R. A. Blampied, of Greymouth, has accepted an invitation to be-min-ister at the Nelson Church of Christ, in succession to Mr. J.‘ K. Robinson, who is going to Perth, Western Australia.

The death occurred, yesterday, at Auckland, of Mrs Rose Collogan, formerly of Greymouth. She was born here, being a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs H. Boyle. She was predeceased by her husband, and is survived by a daughter, Mrs C. Ewfield, of Auckland.

A London cablegram announced the death of Sir Haviland Hiley, who was General Manager of the New Zealand Railways from 1913 to 1919. He was born in England and was engaged in railway work before coming to New Zealand. After relinquishing his post in the Dominion he was engaged in an advisory capacity in England and overseas.

The death took place at Greymouth, yesterday, of Mrs Augusta Eleanora Martens, aged 86, a resident for thirty years. Born at Stockholm, Sweden, she came to the Dominion 68 years ago and before coming to Greymouth resided at Marsden and Kumara. She was predeceased by her husband over 30 years ago. The funeral will take place on Tuesday morning.

A London cablegram stated that the King was represented by Colonel, the Earl of Fortescue (Lord-in-Wait-ing) at a memorial service for Lord Galway at Saint Mark’s Church, North Audley Street, London. The New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan) represented the New Zealand Government and Brigadier R. Park represented the New Zealand Military Forces and the N.Z.E.F. Others present included W. L. James (New Zealand Society), Sir William Peel (Victoria League), Countess Jellicoe and Sir Harry Luke.

Hon. Edmund W. Parker, who until his retirement two years ago was chairman of the London board of Dalgety and Company, Ltd., died in London on March 27. He was born in England 87 years ago and was a son of the Earl of Alacclesfield. In the '•early eighties he came to New Zealand as secretary to Mr. F. G. Dalgety. He became manager’ of the Christchurch branch of Dalgety and Company in 1886. In 1898 he returned to England to take an ap’joiritment with the London board of the company.
