MEETINGS TO COME. GALLOPING March 13: Wellington. March 20. Ohinemuri. March 20. Manawatu. March 20: Oamaru. March 27: Bay of Plenty. March 27: Hawke’s Bay. March 27: Waimate. TROTTING. March 13: Timaru. March 20: Wyndham, March 27: Waikato - CambridgeThames. April 10: Wellington, April 17: Auckland. April 17, 24, May 1: Metropolitan. April 24, 26: Hawera. May 8: Waikato-Cambridge-Thames. May 8: Forbury Park. June 5: Ashburton. Due To Win: Good Scout has been the runner-up in his last five races, being beaten among the hacks and in open company. His record is certainly an unusual one, and if the Peninsula Cup should go his way at Motukarara it will be a popular success for his Riccarton trainer, F. Christmas, and owner, Mr. E. F. Ward.

Looking Fit: Dozie Boy is back in work looking a picture of health. Before being sent back to the trainer, G. W. B. Greene, the Great Northern Steeplechase winner of 1942 had done a fair amount of work on the lead, and on his appearance will not take long to return to winning condition. In all probability he will have the same early Winter programme as last year—namely, Eg-mont-Waikato-Ellerslie circuit in May and early June.

Back In Training: When winning over country in the Winter of 1941 Birkology showed jumping form sufficient to select him as a likely National winner. Unfortunately, tendon trouble caused him to' be eased in his training. The treatment he was subjected to is said to have proved beneficial, and he is at present in training in Gisborne. Theatre is also back in work after a respite from training, and is to be prepared for the Hawke’s Bay Autumn meeting.

Staying Blood: Lady Bertha, one of the maiden winners at Stratford is a four-year-old owned by Mr A. M. Stewart, and trained by H. Dulieu. She was bred in Australia, her sire being the Solario horse Lo Zingaro, and her dam the Rock Flint mare Podokes, who, after racing in New Zealand and being at the stud here also, was sent to Australia in 1933. There is a doubling of the great stayer Isinglass in the pedigree of Lady Bertha, who has now raced only three times, all this season.

From Winning Family: The two-year-old Novocaine ran right off the track entering the straight at. Stratford, and then finished sixth. Novocaine is a chestnut gelding by Man’s Pal from Monoxide, and is trained by A. E. Neale, Bulls, for Mr. L. Philp, Wellington. He cost his owner 320 guineas, at the national sales, and is a half-brother to the New Zealand Cup winner, Cerne Abbas, who will be represented at Riccarton at Easter by Cerne Minster.

Yogi’s Record: Although he has shown himself to be a class horse up to a mile and a quarter, Yogi has scored only once over a longer journey, a win that came in the Manawatu Cup at Christmas-time. The Beau Pere gelding completed a good double at that meeting by adding the Louisson Memorial on the second day. As he had won the Marangai Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at the Wanganui meeting, his success in the Taranaki Cup gave him his fourth win for the season, and, irrespective of minor placings, he has won £1555 in stake money and a gold cup valued at £5O.
