PENSIONS INCREASE. RUGBY, August 17. The increased rates of supplementary pensions approved by Parliament last month come into force this week. Over 1,000,000 old people, who are now receiving supplementary pensions from the Assistance Board will have their allowances raised by 1/6 weekly or 5/- for a married couple. The total increase will amount to nearly £10,000,000 yearly, bringing the total of all old age pensions to £135,000,000. AGRICULTURAL ARMY. RUGBY, August 17. An army of agricultural workers, under the directions of the Country War Agricultural Committee will move into one of two East Anglian areas to-day, to harvest nearly 2,000 acres of corn left when farmers and their workers evacuated. The harvesting will be done with the help of soldiers who are training in the area.
