REEFTON, August 15. Mr. J. B. Auld presided at the monthly meeting of the Council of Reefton School of Mines. Letters were received from Bolton and Sutherland regarding repairs to the School survey instruments and adjustments. To be attended to. The Director reported that an increased number of candidates would be taking the forthcoming examinations. The montnly reoort of the Director (Mr. W. J. Bolitho) showed that class attendances were: Reefton 20, Waiuta 1, Wallsend 5, Blackball 4. Assays totalled 37, beino' quartz 25, scheelite 2, silica 1, bullion tests 5, coal dust 2, cyanide solution tests 2. The assay numbers show improvement. Repair work on the building is to be put in hand ci--o’’tly. It was resolved that the School subscribe to the Reefton Lib--1 David Wight, married, a deputy, employed at Burke’s Creek Colliery, suffered foot injuries which included a b'■•■'ken bore, when a leaded t’’uN< n+ coal passed over his foot while at work. He was given medical attenfxon. . _ _ Signalman W. Williams, lx.N., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Williams, of Reefton, is spending leave with his parents, after a period of overseas service. , Signalman J. Ward, formerly of Reefton P. and T. staff, is visiting relations in Reefton, on leave. Members of Reefton Women’s Institute commenced a waste rubber drive on Thursday. A horse and lorry is being used to make the collection. . . Mr. Henri Penn, Examiner in Music for Trinity College of London will visit Reefton on Monday for the annual musical examinations which are to be conducted at Reefton Convent. Mr. M. Turner (Wellington), who has been seriously ill has arrived to spend an extended holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Turner. Among the names included in a late casualty list is that of Private D. Baird, son of Mr. J. Baird of Reefton.

ivirs. J. Scarlett, Reefton, has been advised that her son Sergt. F. Scarlett is safe and well in Egypt.
