LEAGUE FOOTBALL
TO-MORROW’S REP. GAME
Remembering the strong bid made for the trophy by Canterbury last season, followers of Rugby League are eagerly awaiting the Northern Union Cup challenge match at Wingham Park to-morrow. West Coast, the defenders of the Cup, have a strong side, almost all of the places in the team being filled by the same men who held the trophy last year. With M. Ord, F. Pascoe, C. Mountford, W. Mann, J. Burns, and P. Mulcare as the backline, it can be expected that the speedy Canterbury backs will have to reach top form to counter the Coast attack. Much will depend upon possession of the ball from the scrums, and it is difficult to assess the prospects in this division. The Coast hooker, Plowden, has done great work for his club team this season, and he has seasoned campaigners with him in R .Glynn and R. Clarke. The Canterbury pack also contains several stars of last year’s team, including Mead and Berry, and on paper the forwards look evenly matched. Like the Coast side, Canterbury have retained the services of the stars of last year's backline. C. Davison, R. Whitley, R, and L. Brown all being exponents of the fust, open game. The Canterbury-Coast match last year was such a crowd pleaser that efforts were made, unsuccessfully, to arrange a second fixture. To-mor-row, it is expected, there should be a record crowd in attendance at Wingham Park. Prior to the principal fixture,' Marist and Blackball third graders will provide the football.
