Disapproval was expressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry) of a suggestion that the profits of the £5OOO alluvial, gold art unions be now donated to the patriotic funds. These art unions, he said, were held for relief of distress cases, and did not come under the Social Security Act. The profits from each art union were distributed to mayoral distress funds and the surplus profits were distributed among charitable and philanthropic bodies. The National Patriotic Council opposed any recommendation to the Government for any diversion from charities to patriotic funds.
