GREY HARBOUR BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board was held last evening, Mr J. A. Murdoch presiding. There were also present Messrs J ■ Smeaton, J. Mulcare, W. Clayton, W. E. Pring, J. Ryall, and E. W. Heenan The Treasury Department remitted £641/8/11 wharfages, the Mines Department £ 1/9/5 royalties, the Air Department £9/7/6 for weather reports, and the Public Works Department £35/17/3 for stone. Messrs Stratford, Blair and Co., Ltd., forwarded royalty on milling timoer, £29/7/11. ± . _ . Mr J. O’Brien. M.P., wrote, inviting a nomination for the Rehabilitation Board to be set up in Greymouth.—The Engineer (Mr D. S. Kennedy) was appointed. With reference to legal proceedings decided upon at the last meeting against carters for removal ol sand from Blaketown Beacn, Messis Guinness and Kitchingham advised that proof of removal Irom Board's land was essential. —Ta? Secretary (Mr W, B. Gilbert) reported that the requisite proof had been furnished. The Secretary of . the Harbour Boards' Industrial Union of Workers forwarded a copy of a Waterfront Control Commission order respecting the working of vessels at Greyrnouth and Westport. The District Manpower Officer loiwarded permits to terminate employment in respect of four general Hands at the Cobden Quarry. Mr Murdoch was appointed to represent the Board at a conference on soil conservation and river control, to be held in Greymouth. The Mine Manager, Erunner Collieries Ltd., was granted a lease ol sections 177, 178, 179, 180, 181, 182, 183, 282, 283, and 286 at Dobson tor the erection of miners’ dwellings. Th? report of the Finance Committee indicated receipts totalling E1478/7/9 since the previous meeting, as follow: Shipping dues £630 17/7. royalties £33/18/-, rents £66 1/7, accident compensation £4B 12/10, deposit on Jure of plant £7, hire and sale of plant £5/4/1, sale of quarry stone. £35/17/3, weather reports £9/7/6. and wharfages £641 8/11. , The debit balance in the Harbour Fund Account totalled £686/7/7. Accounts totalling £2604/11/9 were passed for payment. A tender of £35 per annum, plus cost of survey, from the Public Works Department, the only one received, was accepted for the lease of land in the lagoon dock area.
