[our own correspondent.] REEFTON. May 2L Mr. J. Discacaiti presided at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua District Patriotic Committee. The Food Controller wrote regarding the supplies of foods for inclusion in parcels for soldiers overseas. Mr. Auld reported that supplies of some goods had been ordered to cover the despatch of several quotas of parcels. Westland Patriotic Committee wrote thanking the Treasurer for several amounts sent forward from the Inangahua District, and forwarding the thanks of the central executive for steady and regular contributions monthly. ” Also advising that Inangahua had contributed £574/7/1 of their annual quota. Mr. Stanley moved Mr. Coghlan seconded that the Secretary ascertain if this district had a quota last year for funds, and if same exceeded the fixed figure, would this amount be taken as a credit for the reduction of this year’s quota figures? Rev. R. Seaton wrote asking the Committee to consider the appointment of a representative of the Reefton Ministers’ Association to the Inangahua Committee in his place.— Mr. Archer moved Mr. Lord seconded, that the letter be received and no action be taken. —Carried. Mr. Discacaiti reported that the Committee had sent forward 99 soldiers’ gift parcels. The cases had been all packed and shipped to Wellington. A splendid response had been afforded the Committee and in addition to a cake being placed in each parcel, a tin of biscuits had also been included. Tne standard parcel asked for either cake or biscuits and the Committee had been fortunate in being able to include both. The Treasurer (Mr. Auld) stated that the total funds collected to date for the month was £l9/19/10. £2959/9/3 had been collected in the district since the inception of the funds.

Mr. J. Discacaiti presided at. a meeting of the Reefton Patriotic Committee. Mrs. J. Hunter (Maruia) forwarded £ 1 being a donation towards. the cost of soldiers’ parcels. Miss McVicar for organising the slipper raffle, was thanked by the Committee. It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mr and Mrs Wm. Mitchell of Reefton expressing the hope that their son Pilot Officer H. R. Mitchell, who lias been posted as missing will be located safe, and in good health. As a considerable amount of the annual quota from the district for patriotic funds has yet to be raised, it was resolved to hold a “Victory Fair” at Reefton during August. The funeral of the late James Lawn moved from the residence Buller Road on Wednesday afternoon for the Suburban Ccmetry. Burial services at the house and at the graveside wore conducted by Rev. J. Patterson of Knox Church. Members of the Inangahua Silver Band of which deceased was a life member formed a guard of honour at the house and at the cemetery. The Band played “Abide with Me." Mrs. Mary A. Story died at Reefton Hospital on Wednesday morning. Aged 57 and a native of Scotland, the late Mrs. Story had suffered only a short illness. A resident of New Zealand for 32 years, the late Mrs. Story had lived six years in Reefton. She is survived by her husband, four sons, Thomas, Lewis and William (Reefton), Edward in camp, and three daughters Kathleen, Mary and Joan. Also one brother, Mr. Skelton, of Reefton.

The death occurred at Reefton Hospital yesterday of Chow Lichee. He was 86 years of age, and was a resident of 'Reefton for over sixty years. _____
