MOTORING LICENSES
REDUCTION IN CHARGES WELLINGTON. May 22. The Minister of Transport announces that reductions will be made in the charges for the relicensing of motor-vehicles, this year. The private car license fee is being reduced from 40/- to 35/-. In addition, compulsory third-party insurance premiums will be reduced substantially lor most classes of vehicles. The new premiums will be as follow (reductions shown in parentheses): Motor-cycles 20/- (nil). Dealers' vehicles 35/- (5/-). Tractors 7/- (3/-). Private cars 16/- (10/-). Business cars 45/- (8/-). Trade motors 30/- (8/-). Fire brigade vehicles 10/- (8/-). Public taxis 200/- (nil). Private hire taxis 100/- (50/-). Omnibuses 100/- (20/-). Service cars 100/- (20/-). Other public motor vehicles 60/- (nil). Trailers 4/- (2/-). Hearses and ambulances 15/- (5/-). In the case of Omnibuses, there is still the additional 2/- for each seat in excess of 10, but the maximum is reduced from £7/12/- to £6/12/-. In the case of service cars, the additional 4/- for each seat exceeding seven, with a maximum of £7/16/- is reduced to 2/-, with a maximum of £5 18/-. There is no change in respect, to the additional 2/- for each seat exceeding 10 in the case of other public vehicles.
There will also be an amount of sixpence payable for license stickers, to be issued in lieu of plates this year. Therefore, when relicensing a car next month, a private owner will pay a total of £2/11/6, compared with £3/8/- last year. Mr. Semple stated that, for identification purposes, the existing registration plates would be retained on. vehicles. New plates as well as stickers would be issued for vehicles not licensed during the 194142 licensing year, in which case 2/would be charged for plates.
