July 4.—Wellington. July 11.—Wellington. July 25.—5. Canterbury Hunt. August I.—Christchurch Hunt. Ribbonwood Strain:— The blood of the one-time champion pacer Ribbonwood is in the pedigree of both Mac’s Jimmy and Royal Worthy, two greatly improved trotters. Mac’s Jimmy is out of a mare by King Cole, a son of Ribbonwood, and Royal Worthy, is out of Royal Serene, by Realm. 2.3 4-5, a speedy pacer by Ribbonwood. Realm was a brilliant performer for the late W. J. Tomkinson, and took his mile record when he finished second- to Acron in the Free-tor-All of 1924, in which Acron registered 2.3 3-5, which stood as the race record until equalled by Gold Bar in saddle last November.

Enjoyment:— lt was generally accepted that Enjoyment, winner of the Egmont Steeples on Saturday, was making his first appearance in the role, but on two occasions in the 1939-40 season he contested crosscountry events. He won three hurdle races in succession prior to running unplaced in the Waikato Hurdles. On the second day he took his place in the Waikato Steeples, only to fall. The same happened at the Great Northern Meeting when he contestred both the hurdles and steeples. On the latter occasion he ranked second biggest outsider, a position he filled last Saturday, but he won in hollow fashion. A son of the Catmint horse Delightment and Leighton mare Exalted, daughter of that good mare Flora Macdonald, Enjoyment made his debut as a two-year-old, but met with an accident that resulted in his absence for seven seasons. When he returned to racing it was as a hurdler, and his first win came at his fifth attempt. His dam was not a great success on the Turf, her four seasons bringing three successes around the Dargaville and Bay of Islands circuit. Despite the fact that he is now rising 11 years. Enjoyment will be heard of again in whichever role he figures.
