The Canterbury Park Trotting Club took control of the New Brighton irotting track to-day. for its Summer meeting, and in spite of the petrol restrictions the attendance was one oi the biggest seen on the New Brighton racecourse. The track was in excellent order. The feature of the day's racing was the splendid performance of the four-year-old Certissimus, who was asked to give away 120 yards’ start to older and more experienced trotters. As the race was run Certissimus was set an impossible task, but in defeat he-rose higher in the estimation of his admirers, He gave the best display of trotting seen on a grass track in New Zealand. The division race, which opened the programme, did not prove popular with speculators, for less than £2OOO was invested. Betting, however, became more spirited later, and the total, mounted io £33,503/10/-, a slight decrease on the £35,791/10/put through at Addington on the corresponding day last year. During the running of the Papakura Handicap, al, the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting, several horses tell, and their drivers were thrown on to the course. A. T. Newdick was admitted to hospital suffering from a severe head injury. A. W. Broughton was treated in the casualty department for slight injuries. A. McGarry suffered a broken arm. y. Mackie received concussion, but his case is not serious. Newdick’s condition is serious.

Outclassing a brilliant field of primers, High Title easily won the Oakleigh Plate at Flemington to-day. His reversal of form after falling twice recently caused the worst big day demonstration against , a winner in Victoria for years. Beaulivre was unplaced. His jockey, E Bartle, had no excuses to offer for the former New Zealander.

High Caste increased his winnings to £35,652 by winning the St. George Stakes. The champion filly, Hesione, suffered her first reverse when she was beaten by Chatfield in the Federal Stakes.
