COBDEN NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Considerable sickness is prevalent in the district among adults and children. Whooping cough and mumps are the chief troubles. The monthly meeting of the Men Teachers’ Guild was held in the schoolroom during the week-end, Mr. F. Coleman presiding. Mr. A. E. Dowgray tendered his resignation as sec-> retary, owing to his transfer from the district. A vote of appreciation was accorded Mr. Dowgray for his services. Mr. Gudex was appointed in his place. Considerable discussion took place on the subject of the teaching of swimming, members generally agreeing that a “swimming week" was insufficient for the purpose. The meeting also discussed the transport of children to dental clinics, and the method of collecting the annual fees. It was left to Mr. H. R. Barrett to have the subject discussed at the next meeting of the Grey Branch of the N.Z.E.I. Short talks were given by two members on educational subjects. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Blaketown.
