RUNANGA NOTES

" [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Colonel Butcher took the salute at the weekly parade of the Runanga Home Guard, last evening. The Home Guard band of 22 members made its first appearance on parade under bandmaster R. Jackson. Following instruction, Colonel Butcher addressed the men, congratulating them on the turn out, and the progress shown in the short time. He congratulated the band on its fine performance. He gave an outline of the training programme proposed, and the duties of the Runanga unit in case of emergency. In expressing his pleasure at the high percentage of young men in the unit, he said this was much higher than in most other districts, where the task had been left to the older men, and it was satisfactory, to know that so many young men in the town had a sense of responsibility.
