YACHTING
IDLEALONG CONTEST TRIALS. Under the auspices of the West Coast Sailing, Rowing and Power Boating Association, five trials were held at Lake Brunner, early in the New Year, in order to select a boat and crew to represent the association at the New Zealand Idlealong Contest to be held at Lyttelton, commencing on February 4. The boat Vicuna, selected by the committee, Mr J. Walton, Greymouth (chairman), Mr E. Smith (Greymouth), Mr Hynes (Moana) and Mr Bassett (Kanieri), was built by its owner, Mr J. Kroening, and is sailed by A. Kroening. The crew will be A Kroening (skipper), Eric Smith and J. Kroening, In the event of any member of the crew not being available, H. McGirr will sail as third man. ~ Two delegates will accompany the crew to Lyttelton: Mr P. McDonald of the Moana Club and Mr J. Howat of the Kanieri Club. In the five trials the • following points were obtained ,the maximum being 500:—Vicuna (A. Kroening), 400 points; Idlehour (R. Blacktopp) 833 1-3; Kiaora (R. Kirk) '173 1-3; Waiata (G. Shaw) 158; Elaine (W. Messenger) 131 1-3; Listless (R. McDonald) 50; Vagabond (D. Hodgkinson) 50; Kawakawa (J. Howat) 33 1-3.
