To deal with the dispute between the Westland Gold Dredge Workers’ Union and Ngahere Gold Dredging Ltd., a tribunal consisting of Mr. J. A. Gilmour (Industrial Magistrate), with Messrs A. McLagan and T. O. Bishop as associates, commenced a sitting at Greymouth on Saturday evening. The hearing was continued to-day and was still proceeding when the “Star” went to press, five witnesses having been heard up till the luncheon adjournment to-day. Mr. D. Faris (secretary of the Dredge Workers’ Union) represented the employees and Mr. J. W. Hannan represented the employers. “It is not a ‘Boy Scout show’ at all, •and I can assure you there’s no funny business about the Home Guard in England,” said Dr. J. V. Cable, who has recently arrived from England, •when interviewed at Hawera. “If, when challenged by a Home Guard, I you do not immediately stop, there is no hesitation in shooting,” he said.
