GRAIN AND PRODUCE. [PER press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, December 6. The -following are quotations to farmers on trucks at country stations unless otherwise indicated:— Wheat.—Milling f.o.b. Tuscan 5/11, Hunters 6/1, Pearl 6/3, Marquis 6/5 (Final payment of 3d a bushel on all wheat at the end of the year.) A Gartons 3/9 to 4/-; B Gartons 3/3 to 3/6; Algerians 3/6 to 3/9; Duns 4/to 4/6, according to sample. Ryegrass: Perennial and Italian 6/- to 7/-, according . to ..sample. Cocksfoot 9d (nominal). White clover, 2/- to 2/5. Red Clover: 1/-. Partridge peas: 6/9 to 7/-. Chaff: £4/15/- (nominal). Barley: Malting, ex stack, 4/10£, exstook 4/7|; Cape, 4/- to 4/6; black 6/- to 6/3. Onions: £l6, sacks extra. Linseed, f.a.q., £2l. BRITISH RETAIL SALES. RUGBY, December 5. The money value of daily retai’ sales in October was 6.8 per cent above the figure for October, 1939. The only decline was in the London area. CHARMING CREEK COAL. The annual report of the Charming Creek Coal Company, Ltd., shows a credit balance on the year of £Bl9, compared with £lOO6 for the previous year’s work. However, £2015 was written off in depreciation this year, compared with £1479 in 1939. The output for the year increased by 2036 tons to a total of 30,333 tons, the report states. The demand for coal was brisk in the Winter, but the seasonal fallihg-off is now being experienced. An area adjoining the present workings is being prospected for future development, but without this area there is plenty of coal for many years ahead in the workings. ARGO The Argo dredge return is 42 ounces, from 11,000 yards, treated in 121 hours. BLACKWATER.

Blackwater Mines’ return for November: Crushed 4556 tons yielding 1890 fine ounces of gold from all sources, including clean-up of old mill, the value of which, taking gold at 168/- per fine ounce, was £15,876. Working expenses not including ordinary or war duty, were £9644. Development expenditure was £9BO and capital expenditure £746. Review of development work carried out during the month.—No. 11 Level drive north advanced 23ft on fault, drag-stone now showing. No. 12 Level drive north advanced 38ft in country on lines. No. 14 Level drive north advanced 23ft, of. which 12 averaged 20dwts over 27 inches. No. 14 Level drive south advanced 18ft. averaging lljdwts over 24ins. No. 14 Level south backshunt at 1295 advanced 22ft, averaging Bdwts over 20 inches. No. 14 Level Rise at 1335 advanced 10ft, averaging 10|dwts. over 26ins. No. 13 Level Winze at 1135 advanced 12ft, averaging 15 dwts. over 23 inches. No. 13 Level Winze at 3350 started and advanced 14ft off reef in hanging wall.
