JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES
AUCKLAND GATHERING. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, December 1. Gratitude to the Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) and the Superintendent -of Police (Mr. D. J. Cummings) for their kindly courtesy and simple common sense was expressed by Mr. R. T. Reid, the principal speaker at a religious gathering held in the Town Hall concert chamber to-night by Jehovah’s Witnesses. Approximately 300 people were present, and pro--ceedings were . entirely orderly. A. police constable was stationed at the back of the hall throughout. Mr. Reid said that although Jehovah’s Witnesses were at present under a cloud, they regarded it as much as the Children of Israel regarded the Pillar of Cloud which guided them out of Egypt. He wished to contradict a report that re - ligious bodies in New Zealand had entered objections to the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He had been informed that no representations had been made by any Protestant body in the Dominion. It was announced that further weekly meetings would be held in another hall.
