DENMARK AND HOLLAND

food' shortage increasing [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.! LONDON, November 27. The Lisbon correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” reports that travellers from Denmark say the Danes believe that the Germans are planning to use Jutland as a spring-board for invading Britain. Large forces recently went there. The food shortage is growing serious. Farmers are facing ruin and are forced to kill, their livestock. Only doctors are the privileved few allowed petrol. Bicycle tyres are unobtainable. The Germans are buying all kinds of easily transportable goods with worthless marks. The Danes are boycotting their masters, never speaking to the Germans except when it is absolutely necessary. Shopkeepers profess ignorance of German, often saying they ■understand only English and thus forcing German customers to speak English if they wish to be served. The Germans have not taken strong measures against listening to foreign broadcasts, and almost every household listens to the British Briadcasting Corporation’s Danish news bulletins. The Ministry of Economic Warfare reports that 50,000 Dutch workers have already gone to Germany, and the number is steadily increasing. The latest indications of German plundering include ■a' large-scale slaughtering of hens, which have been reduced from 28,000,000 to 6,000,000. The Ger-man-controlled Dutch radio says that an egg is an unnecessary breakfast luxury, and it adds that it would be healthier' if people gave up tea and coffee.

FAROE ISLANDS. RUGBY, November 28. Mr. Butler, in reply to Commons questions, said that the Faroe Islands were occupied by His Majesty’s forces. All communications • with Denmark had been terminated, but the islands would still remain part'of Denmark, and would continue to be administered by the Danish Government, in conjunction with the acting local Parliament.
