MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET The West Coast Rugby Union’s Management Committee met last evening, there being present: Messrs. A. A. Adams (chairman), J. Guy, F. Eggleton, T. Mclntosh, T. O’Donnell, J. Steel, H. F. S. Silcock, J. Kyle, F. W. Baillie, T. P. Ryan, and A. M. Jamieson (acting-secretary). A motion of. condolence was passed with the relations of the late Mr. W. J. Kelly, a former West Coast footballer. The . Canterbury Union wrote expressing thanks for the generous hospitality extended the Canterbury team on its visit to Greymouth. Captain J. G. Mackay, sports officer, Wigram Aerodrome, and Wing Commander J. S. Hodgson wrote thanking the Union for the hospitality extended the Air Force team on its visit to Greymouth. The chairman stated that among the many telegrams received, congratulating the team on winning the Seddon Shield, was one from the Air Force team. The chairman added that he was sure the Union was unanimous in congratulating the team on its fine Seddon Shield victory. A motion embodying the Union’s appreciation of th© victory of the team was recorded in the minutes,' on the motion of the chairman and Mr. Steel.

Reporting on the visit to Nelson, Mr. Mclntosh (one of the joint managers of the team) said that the match was most interesting. The Coast team did not start too well, but as the game progressed they improved and began to show their true ability. Early in the second spell it appeared that the Nelson backs were going to get on top, but the Coasters came to light, and the forwards in the last quarter of an. hour were going stronger than ever. West Coast deserved the victory, and at the dinner that evening, the Nelson officials and team were unanimous that the better team had won. The team’s behaviour had in every way been a credit to the Union. The chairman said that for some years now the Union had had cause to be proud of its travelling teams.

Mr. Mclntosh was accorded a vote of thanks for his report and he and Mr. Olsen were also thanked for their' management of the team. It was decided on the motion of Mr. Mclntosh to thank the Nelson Union for the hospitality extended the team, and “to mention particularly the attention given by Messrs A. H. Crawley (president) and H. McPherson manager). It was resolved that the 1940 West Coast senior representatives—all who have taken part in interprovincial matches this season—be photographed at Greymouth on Saturday, September 28. Mr. Ryan said that the Southern seniors (Christchurch) wished to visit Greymouth for a match on Saturday next.—lt was decided that the Emergency Committee be empowered to arrange a match for 'the team at Hokitika. On the motion of Messrs. Steel and Baillie, it was decided that all proceeds, including nomination fees, of the seven-a-side tournament at Greymouth, on September 28, be devoted to patriotic funds. The Kumara Club nominated two teams, Celtic' one team, and Star one team for the seven-a-side tournament at Kumara on Saturday next. — Messrs. Baillie and Jamieson were appointed to make arrangements for the tournament, and Mr. Steel was appointed as Union representative to attend the tournament. Kumara nominated two junior teams, Celtic two senior, one junior and two third grade teams, and Cobden one senior and two third grade teams for the seven-a-side tournament to be held at Greymouth on September 28.

FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Senior K.O. final: Celtic v. United, Park, No. 1, 1.30 p.m. (C. F. Cockburn). Junior: Seven-a-side at Kumara. Third grade: Cobden v. United, Park, No. 1, 1.30 p.m. (R. Bunt); Celtic v. Magpies at Camerons, 2.30 p.m. (R. Ferguson).
