REEFTON, June 12.

Mr R. A. Dickie presided at the monthly meeting of the Council of Reefton School of Mines. Apologies for absence were received from the president, Mr J. B. Auld, and Mr F. W. Archer.

Letters were received from: The Mines Department regarding repairs to theodilite supplied to the school. The Under-Secretary of Mines that the Council would be> advised of any contemplated step taken to- organise further instruction in mining subjects on the West Coast, in order to allow the School Council to make suggestions and offer advice on the subject. T'ho Director reported that for the month . four bullion assays 1 , four quartz samples, and one coal dust sample' were assayed. Attendances at classes were: Reefton 11, WJaiuta 7, Wallsend 4, Blackball 9. The weekly class for boys from the Reefton District High School was carried on as usual. The Director’s report was adopted.

Mr Bolitho reported that bullion assaying showed an increase due to war conditions, as all gold had now to be tested before leaving the district. Accounts totalling £29/17/4 were passed for payment.
