TORONTO, April 15.
Coinciding with the opening of the lakes’ heaviest shipping season since the Great War, 6,500 Great Lakes’ seamen have struck work. They are demanding higher wages and' larger crews. There are 285 vessels affected.

LONDON, April 14.
The morning newspapers have been reduced in size. This is the result of a Paper Control order which has operated from midnight on Saturday, reducing the amount of paper to be supplied to customers during March.' April and May, from 60 per cent, to 30 per cent, of the amount supplied or manufactured, during the same period last year, except under license. The licenses already issued- have been reduced by 50 per cent.
