Mr. A. McLagan returned on Satui> day, from Huntly, where he was a member of the Royal Commission which inquired into the Glen Afton disaster.

A Sydney cablegram stated that , in the finals of the New South Wales Railways Institute Eisteddfod Competitions, a New Zealander, Miss Daphne Violich of Wellington, won the Humourous Recitation for all ages, and also the Shakespearian Recitation for all ages.

The death occurred yesterday, at his residence, Chapel Street, Greymouth, of Mr. George Hudd, a native of Greymouth, aged 65 years. Deceased resided for many years at Moana, where he was engaged in the sawmilling industry. He hjad residjifd. in Greymouth for the past 16 years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Miss Winifred Hudd (Greymouth), and one son, James (Christchurch); also two sisters, Mrs. M. Egden (Christchurch) and Mrs. S. Chapman (Clyde, Southland). The funeral will take place to-morrow morning at Karoro Cemetery, following Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church.
