LIFE-SAVING STATIONS
FOR NEW ZEALAND COALFIELDS [PER press association.] x CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 9. The Minister of Mines (Mr. Webb) announced, to-day, that Cabinet has approved the construction of two additional life-saving stations on New Zealand coalfields, one at Ohai, in Southland, and the other in the Waikato district. The stations would cost £7OOO, which would be defrayed by a levy on production. Construction of the stations would be expedited, and both would be equipped with the most-mod-ern apparatus available.
Mr. Webb said that he hoped the stations would never have to be used for the purpose for which they were being procured, but, at the same time, the Government felt it should take all precautions against loss of life and property.
