SWIMMING
WEST COAST CENTRE. The West Coast Swimming Centre met on Wednesday evening, there being present: Messrs I-I. Rattray (chairman), I\l. R. Bunt, R. Thomson, F. W. Baillie, W. Payne, S. C. Miller, J. J. Byrne, G. Walters, W. A. G. Washbourne, G. G. M. Mitchell, F Costello, W. H. Gieseking. and ]. Elder (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr C. Wright. The Marist Club wrote suggesting that, a black line be painted near the eml of the municipal baths to indicate to swimmers when they are nearing the turn, or the finish of a race.—lt was decided to ask the New Zealand Council if the painting of such a line would be in accord with the rules.
. The application of the Reefton Club to run carnivals on December 16 (afternoon) and December 27 (evening) was granted. It was decided to ask Mr J. Stokes to he the Centre's honorary educational office] - .
The Marist Club wrote suggesting that the Centre make an effort to have the seating accommodation at the Municipal Baths covered in.—lt was resolved that the Borough Council be asked for its views on the matter.
The rules drawn up by the Chairman the Secretary and Mr Walters to govern the' competition for the Herbert. McGlashan Memorial Diving Cup were approved. (The Cup is to be awarded on a points and handicap basis throughout the season). It. was resolved that, the Centre conduct the West Coast, championships a: Greymouth on Tuesday. Janita ty 23. ments for the. carnival. Tim New Zealand Council advised ilrnt. the senior championships will commence a! Wellington on February It?. 1940. and the junior and intermediate championships at Dunedin on January 17.
