BURNHAM MILITARY BAND

CHRISTCHURCH, November 6.

Such a big crowd attended the massed bands’display in Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon, that the appeal for fund's for a military band at Burnham Camp will start off with the satisfactory sum of £4OO. This is expected to be the profit, approximately, from the function at the park. It is estimated that between 8000 and 9000 paid for admission at the gates. The display was one of the most attractive of its type ever held in the city. Bands from all over the province took part —bands comprising all instruments, from hairhonicas. to bagpipes. The presence of a big detachment of soldiers from Burnham gave the display added impressiveness, and there were waves of enthusiastic applause as the detachments, headed by the massed bands, inarched smartly through the main entrance and oh to the oval. -
