WEDDING

SWEETMAN-MURPHY

The wedding was solemnised at St. Patrick’s Church, Greyniouth, this morning of Phylis Elizabeth (Sheila), youngest daughter o£ the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Murphy, High Street, and Peter Eugene, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Sweetman, Nelson Quay, Cobden. Rev. Father Holohan officiated and Miss Moira Mc'Sherry was at. the organ, The solos, “Ave Maria” and ‘ Just for To-day” weresung by Miss Gladys Saunders. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr. Jack Murphy, wore a dainty frock of ivory witchcraft lace, made with high, round neckline. The corsage was completed in front with a posy of orange blossom. The back of the long, full skirt was cleverly appliqued in floral design from the waistline, graduating in size to the hem of the full train. Long sleeves ot lace, with wide epaulettes of satin and a row of tiny satin buttons down the back completed the frock. Her ivory tulle veil also appliqued in satin, to match the frock, was held in place with a head-band of pearl-finish orange blossom and fell in soft folds, forming a second train. She carried a bouquet of Japanese azaleas, white roses and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids, Miss Johanna Murphy (sister of the bride) and Miss Coral Weir (cousin) were frocked alike in Victorian gowns of deep moon blue lace, mounted on duchess satin. The high necklines -were finished with round! Peter Pan collars and shot t puff sleeves and satin buttons completed the bodices. Their long, full skirts were attached at the high waistline with numerous rows of niching. Their elbow length silk gloves, toning with their frocks, were also niched from the wrist. They wore lace poke .bonnets, the brims edged with cameo pink net, and blue velvet ribbon bows each side of the crown, and carried bouquets of pink roses, pink stock and maidenhair fern. The little flower girl, Josephine Rathbun, wore an ankle-length frock of ivory silk.net, mounted on satin of the same shade. The high neckline was completed with a round collar of ivory satin and tie sash at the back. Her little ivory silk net juliet cap was trimmed at each side with posies of deep pink rosebuds and she carried a small bouquet of pink roses, lily-of-the-valley and maidenhair fern. Mr. William Moore was best man and Mr. Cecil Murphy, brother of the bride, was groomsman. The reception was held at Harkers, Where the guests were received by Mrs. J. Irvine, aunt of the bride, who wore an American prunella shade frock, with accessories and posy to tone. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, who also wore a prunella ensemble, with black accessories and carried a posy to match her frock. Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Sweetman left later for Christchurch and Timaru, the bride travelling in a saxe blue suit, with navy hat and accessories.
