Trotting

MEETINGS TO COME

Nov. 7,9, 10—N.Z. Metropolitan. Nov. 23, 25—Forbury Park.

Stud News:

Escapade, one of the best trotters a. few years ago, and Rustic Maid have each foaled a colt to U. Scott. Rustic Maid is the dani of Highland Scott, one of the best two-year-olds raced in New Zealand.

A Useful Team: Donor, who has done most of his racing under the care of M. Holmes, was recently purchased by Mr. AV. Parkinson, who scored several wins with Ferry Post. Donor will be one of C. S. Donald’s charges at Addingdon, and others that will race in the interests of the Belfast trainer are Tan John, Mazaire, Clockwork, Plutus, Marlene, AVahhooka, Captain Bolt, and Jackaranda.

Bracketed: Horses that will be bracketed on the totalisator on tlie opening day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting include the following:— New Zealand Cup—Cantata and Blair Athol; Lucky Jack and Parisienne.

Dominion Handicap —Captain Bolt and Wahnooka. Victoria Handicap—Donor and Jackaranda.

Hagley Handicap—Bonny Azure and Glenrossie.

At Addington: R. J. Humphreys produced-Cantata and Blair Athol, his two New Zealand Cup candidates at Addington yesterday, and the time of 3.12 3-5 for. a mile and a-half represented a really good trial at this stage of the preparation for the big race. Cantata conceded a short start to Blair Athol, and with the first half-mile covered in 1.5 and tiie mile in 2.10, both pacers came home full of running. Lawn Derby’s effort was watched with interest, but he was restricted in pacing two miles in something better than 4.40. This was no trouble to the Australian, who appears to be in the piiik of conditioh. R. B. Berry was a visitor with his two cracks, Parisienne and Lucky Jack. The former was driven by her Cup pilot, D. C. Watts, while R. B. Berry was behind his favourite, Lucky Jack. A mile and a-half was the task allotted, and neither horse was doing its best at the finish to record 3.15. Parisienne, as is usual when working these horses, set out to make the pace, and with the half-mile covered in 1.6 and the mile in 2.13 1-5, both horses were pacing in great style.

Windsor Lass was let off with a useful work-out over a mile in 2.14 2-5, while Native I-luon, one of the early favourites "for’ tlie Spring Handicap, trotted a mile and a-quarter in 2.47, the first half-mile in 1.9.

Marsceres gave Lady Milne a good start over two miles, which was completed by MftT’ceres in 4.28. Marsceres paced with rare determination, and is probably better than ever he has been. .He was driven by J. Pringle. Fremont paced a mile and a-half in 3.19, but especially pleasing was the perforniance put up by the three-year-old Shady Glen, who recorded 3.22.
