BRUNNER NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Lieutenant Barsley arrived from’ Reefton last evening to spend the week-end with the local Salvation Army officers. Mr. C. Reid, Taylorville, left last evening on a visit to Christchurch. Miss M. Franklin has left on a. short visit to Christchurch. Miss F. Moth and Mr. Henderson were the winners at the weekly euche tournament held in Stillwater Hall. Mrs. Pender (President) presided over a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Brunner Women’s Institute. The meeting opened with the Institute song, Mrs. Guthberlet being the accompanist, and the aspirations were then read, the mottor for the month being: “Do unto others as you would be done by. The remits for the halfyearly Council meeting, to be held in Hokitika on October 27, were discussed. Final arrangements were made for the birthday party to be held in Wallsend Hall on October 27. Mrs. J. L. Hill gave a further series of her travel talk. A demonstration on wreath making was given by Mrs. Martin and much appreciated by the members. The competitions resulted: Plate of six ginger biscuits: Mrs. Gutberlet 1, Mrs. Richardson 2. Inch buttonhole made at the meeting: Mrs. Rodgers 1 ,Mrs. Todd 2. Members were reminded of the recipes for the cookery book, also the sales table each month. The roll call was, “How to run the Institute,” and some useful suggestions were received. The hostesses, Mesdames Slater, Pender, Buckman and Gutberlet served a dainty supper.
