FOOD RATIONING
PREPARATIONS IN BRITAIN. [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) (Recd. October 20. 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, October 19. The Ministry of Food has announced that the arrangements for the introduction of the rationing scheme are in an advanced state of preparation. Ration books will be issued to consumers at least ten days before the date on which rationing begins, so that time will be given for registration by consumers with the retailers of their choice. BACON SHIPMENTS RESUMED. LONDON, October 19. The Food Ministry slates that Denmark has resumed bacon shipments. The Ministry is doing its utmost to ensure a continuance of supplies, but all bacon imported will be strictly controlled in price and distribution.
MINISTER OF SHIPPING. RUGBY, October 19. The new Minister of Shipping, Sir John Gilmour, to-day, met representatives of the Chamber of Shipping and the Liverpool Steamship Qwners’ Association. The Minister stated that he wished to work in the closest co-operation with, the shipping industry. It is understood that Sir John Gilmour will meet representatives of the officers and men of the merchant service, to-morrow.
