Mrs. D. A. McLean returned yesterday from Christchurch.

Mrs. W. Sharp returned yesterday, from Levin. She was accompanied by her father, Mr. W. J. Johns.

Mrs. J. C. Wilson, Cobden, who has been an inmate of Oranui Hospital, has been discharged.

An Official Wireless message stated that Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain were guests of the King and Queen at luncheon, at Buckingham Palace.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley V. Jennings, of Riccarton, will arrive by to-mor-row’s express. They will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. Martin, Taylorville.

The death occurred at the Reefton 1 Hospital, yesterday afternoon, of Mr. James Quinn, aged 73 years. Deceased was a pioneer of the Kumara district,'and followed the occupation of a painter. He served in the Boei’ War, and also at Samoa. The funeral will take place at Reefton, to-morrow.

At St. Clair Presbyterian Church, Dunedin, on Tuesday evening, Mr. J. M. Taylor, ex-Otago and New Zealand, representative footballer, was married to Miss Nancy Martin McPhail, St. Kilda, Dunedin. Mr. C. K. Saxton, another All Black, was best man. The future home of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor will be in Wellington.

The deaths of two former Hokitika residents have followed one anothei’ with tragic suddenness. Mr. John Cahill, aged 72, died in Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, and at the funeral, yesterday, his eldei’ brother, Mr. Thomas Cahill, dropped dead. The death occurred in the hospital at Rarotonga on Tuesday of the Reverend Mothei' Estelle, Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, Rarotonga. Born at Dijon. France, in 1879, she commenced hex- life at Papeete in 1898. She spent one yeax’ at Gambier Island and in 1905 transferred to Rarotonga. Except fox’ a period uf seven years at Papeete, her life’s work was devoted to the education of Rarotonga. natives. She visited hex’ native land in 1937. There was general mourning throughout the island, and her funeral was largely attended.
