ANTI-MILITARY PROPAGANDA

I SECRET STATION IN ENGLAND. — i LONDON, August 22. Post Office engineers, using secret ; methods known only to the invest il gation department, are on the track of an amateur wireless transmitting [station which has been broadcasting anti-military service propaganda for the past two weeks. It, is believed that the organisers of the broadcasts are members of the Peace Pledge Union, acting without the knowledge or consent of the union. The wave-length of the station is 48.5 metres, and its position has been estimated to be somewhere on the Hendon side of Finchley-road, N.W. A Post Office official say yesterday: “Until this station is traced it is impossible to say whether it is licensed or not. “Even if it. is not an illicit transmitter it is being used illegally. Transmission licenses are issued only for wireless research; broadcasting of publicity, propaganda or Press matter| is a contravention of the Wireless Telegraph Act. “Wo cannot reveal the methods by which our engineers are attempting to trace the station. Its position will be discovered and action taken. “If it is a licensed station the license will be withdrawn and the set dismantled. It is not often that cases are taken to court.” The secretary of the Peace- Pledge Guion said: “I have heard one or two of these broadcasts. They might easily have been given by members of our union, but they have not been sponsored by us. “After I had been told of these broadcasts, about a fortnight ago, 1 listened-in, but did not recognise thei voice.” |
