ADDINGTON MARKET

FAT CATTLE CHEAPER. [per press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 19. With a substantial increased entry, fat sheep values steadied at yesterday’s Addington market. The buyingactivity for cattle was reduced by the warm weather-; and there was an easing of 20/- to 30/- a head. Subsidiary sections showed little change, except that stere cattle and store pigs were in strong demand. ■Store Sheep: Last week’s improved tone was maintained for a slightly larger entry of better quality. EweS and lambs made to 16/5 for a small line, with bigger pens at 13/3 and 14/3, and less attractive lines from 11/- to 12/10. A truck lot of exceptionally good ewe hoggets made 29/6, with other truck lots at 25/10 and 25/6, and medium sorts at 22/- to 23/6. Small pens of wethers were offered, the best making 22/-. Two, four, six and eight-tooth ewes, mostly the older ages, made 15/3. Spring Lambs: There was a sharp increase in the entry to about 240 head. Quality was keenly sought after, but the bigger entry brought the good lambs back Id a pound to between lOd and lid. Unfinished sorts were also bought freelj’ at from Sd a pound? Fat Sheep: The penning of 5750 head was the largest for some weeks, although wethers were in limited supply. The market opened at easier values than, the average rates of a week ago for practically all sorts, medium ewes being an exception. Heavy ewes and light wethers were 1/- to 1/6 a head easier. The entry increased as the sale progressed, and prices remained steady in spite of this. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 49/1; prime heavy wethers, 40/- to 44/-;, prime medium-weight wethers, 34/- to 39/-; ordinary wethers, 29/- to 33/-; light wethers, to 2S/-: extra prime heavy ewes, to 46/1; prime heavy ewes, 34/- to 37/6; prime me-dium-weight ewes, 30/- to 33/-; ordinary ewes, 23/- to 28/-; light ewes, to 22/-.

Prices ruled on a basis which compared with those prevailing prior to the sharp advance of some weeks ago.
