OPEBA HOUSE—Now Showing': “WOMAN DOCTOB.” Should a woman doctor sacrifice her hard-earned laurels, her career, her place in a man’s world that skill and courage have won her, to grace the kitchen-nursery-the drawing-room ? Should she after marriage, confine herself to the duties of' wife and mother, or should she continue to use the skill that saves wrecked human bodies?. That is the question asked and answered in the stirring human drama, “Woman Doctor,” to be screened at the Opera House to-night, and to-morrow, with Frieda Inescort and Henry Wilcoxon in the starring roles. The story relates that Dr Julian Randall, whose medical skill is constantly in demand, has little time to spend with her aviator husband, Alan Graeme, and their daughter, Elsa, played by Sybil Jason. When an emergency operation prevents Dr. Randall from joining Alan in the celebration of their twelfth wedding anniversary he finds solace in the company of Gail Paterson (played by Claire Dodd). Hospital duties again keep Edith from attending a musicale in which her little girl participates. Taking advantage of Dr. Randall’s professional preoccupation, Gail alienates Alan by evincing interest in Elsa. Domestic relations between Dr. Judith and Alan become strained and Alan moves to his Rhode Island home, taking Elsa with him. When Dr. Judith drives down to see them, the sound of the car’s horn startles Elsa’s horse and the child is thrown and badly hurt. Dr. Judith ’phones the New York hospital, telling them to prepare for an emergency operation and. that’ she is flying in with the patient. Personal enmity forgotten, Alan pilots the plane. A crisis develops while they are in the air, dense fog closes in on them, the radio, station at the airport warns them against landing on the beam as the ceiling is zero. With little Elsa gasping for breath, Dr. Randall realises that' seconds Cou,nt so she decides to operate in the. air, with the resultant dramatic climax, bringing a fitting finale to a daring drama of modern age, that will long live in everyone’s memory. The supporting cast includes Cora Witherspoon, Dickie Jones, Joan Howard and Spencer Chambers.

REGENT—Now Showing: “FRA DIAVOIiO” and “SILVER ON THE SAGE.” An unusual predicament compels Laurel and Hardy to become members of a bandit gang in their featurelength comedy, “Fra Diavolo.” It is a picturisation of Auber’s famous comic opera, with Dennis King, the noted singer and stage sfar, portraying the Marquis de San Marco, who ingratiates himself into the good graces of all the. lovely ladies while stealing their jewellery. Laurel and Hardy are seen as a couple of carefree vagabonds. They have saved their money and-decide to take life easy. At which moment a couple of bandits hold them up and take away their savings. It then occurs to Laurel that it is easier to steal than' to make money honestly. Undertaking the career of highway robbers, they eventually confront Diavolo, known throughout the country side as the notorious bandit chief. Pretending to be the great chief himself, Hardy soon discovers his mistake, but it is too late to make a getaway. The chief's band surround the comedians and make them prisoners. Hardy is sentenced to be hanged and Laurel is given the job of hangman. The comedians are saved temporarily when they consent to be the personal aides of the bandit chief who is in quest of a beautiful lady’s jewels. In addition to the comedy team and Dennis King, the supporting cast includes Thelma Todd, James Finlayson, Lucille Brown, Arthur Pierson arid Henry Armetta. “SILVER ON THE SAGE”

William Boyd as the fearless “Hopalong Cassidy” gets the toughest assignment of his adventure-packed career when a rustling king and his twin brother works together to beat out the boys from “Bar 20.” The mystery theft of a herd guarded by “Bar 20” and the imprisonment of his pal Russell Hayden on a trumped-up murder charge sends Boyd into action against the outlaws who use gambling tricks, spies, terror and murder to carry out their plans. But Boyd, who can out-trick the clevesest cardsharps and out-shoot the boldest killers, proves more than a match for them. Woven into the Clarence E. Mulford action plot is a high-geared romance between Hayden, who plays Boyd’s loyal saddlemate, and lovely Ruth Rogers, who is cast as the daughter of a murdered Arizona cattle baron.

On Saturday evening a social was held in the Boddytown School, where songs and games were enjoyed by both children and parents. A novel idea of the “Old Woman and Her Shoe’ was well thought out. During the evening, community singing was enjoyed, and Mr Usher gave violin solos, which were much appreciated. Supper was served. On Monday- evening, Mr. T.JP., Ryan presided over the inaugural meeting of the Southern Queen candidate committee, held in the United Pavilion, when " Miss Rona Peillon, of Lydia Street, was unanimously selected as the candidate. Messrs. T. O’Callaghan and P. Costello have arranged for a meeting of supporters of the Central Committee, this afternoon, and it is hoped to finalise the selection of the central candidate.
