[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] LABOUR DAY PAYMENT. WELLINGTON, October 17. The secretary of the General Labourers’ Union (Mr. P. M. Butler) has received advice from the Minister for Housing (Mr. .11. T. Armstrong) that all labourers employed by the Housing Division are to be paid for the Labour Day holiday, and that the Cabinet, has also decided that, men should receive payment, for last Anzac Day. DROWNING ACCIDENT. NELSON, October 18. The body, of George Westrupp, aged about 55. of Nelson, was found at. the month of the Takaka River, to-day. Westrupp was last, seen proceeding to place an extra mooring line on a fishing launch, at. Takaka, on Monday evening. A broken stay on the rigging indicated that he had fallen overboard. TIMARU, October 17. Three teams competed in the national final of the British Drama League (New Zealand branch) festival, which was held in the Theatre Royal, Timaru, to-night, in the presence of a large audience. They were as follows: Hawera Repertory Club in Percy Corry’s'anti-totalitarian play, “Cupid Rampant”: Opportune Players (Dunedin), in Cedric Mount’s play, “Dirge without Dole”; the Hamilton Playbox in A. P. Herbert’s play, “Two Gentlemen of Soho.” In addition, the Timaru Readers presented Noel Coward’s “Family Album.” The judges, Messrs Bernard Beeby, Harrison Cook, and A. E. Lawrence made the following aiva.rds: Opportune Players, 1; Hamilton Playbox, 2.

ADJUDGED BANKRUPT. AVELLINGTON, October 18. Raymond F. Nelson, advertising manager for Reuter’s, Ltd., was adjudged by Mr. Justice Smith, in the Supreme Court, a. bankrupt. The affidavit of the petitioning creditor, E. J. Hocking, director end general manager of Stewart Dawson, New Zealand, alleged that Nelson was in possession of between £4OOO and £5OOO. which he was obliged to invest or account, for to Stewart Dawson and others. He had left New Zealand in order to defeat his creditors. lie had gone to Auckland. ostensibly on business, and had then written from Suva, where he had gone on a health trip. Reuter's had been told that Nelson was extending his trip to Honolulu, and it was later found that he booked a passage from Suva to Southampton, about August 13.
