BRUNNER NOTES

[OUH OWN COKBESPON'DENT.] Mrs. Fordham was the winner at the whist drive held in Taylorville School on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. C. Fensom returned to Stillwater on Saturday, from a holiday spent in Invercargill and Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. D. Kennedy, Taylorville, left on Saturday for Christchurch to attend the wedding of their son, Mr. D. Kennedy. Mr. G. Smith, manager of Brunner Collieries, returned on Saturday from the North Island, where he attended the funeral of his father. Mr. and JVlrs. H. Smith and Mr. H. Smith senr., of Westport, were visitors to Taylorville during the weekend. TENNIS. Mrs. G. Smith presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Taylorville Tennis Club. The annual subesriptions were reduced by 5/- and now stand at: Men 7/6, women 5/-, with an entrance fee of 12/6 for men and 10/- for women. A vote of thanks was accorded the president for her services and report. The new committee was requested to inquire into some small discrepancies in the balance sheet. It was also asked to attend to outstanding accounts. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs. G. Smith; vice-president, Mr. F. Bernard; treasurer and secretary, Mr. A. E. Mahon; club captain, Mr. J. Pollock; assistant club captain, Mr. A. Bernard. The committee was reelected unopposed. RIFLE SHOOTING

In fine weather, with a difficult wind at all ranges, the Brunner Defence Rifle Club fired for Rifleman C. Buckman’s trophy. Several riflemen were absent with the Band at Blackball, and still have to shoot. Rifleman G. Smith is leading with 101 off the rifle. His score included a possible at the 300 yards, where the majority of the riflemen were caught with a strong wind from the left. Scores: —
