LEAGUE FOOTBALL
DIARIST CLUB BANQUET. There was an attendance of over 50 members, and officers of the West Coast Rugby League and affiliated clubs, at the annual banquet of the Diarist Old Boys’ Rugby League Club, which was held at Harker’s Reception Rooms, on Saturday evening. Dlr J. Griffen (President of the Club) presided. The President of the West Coast League (Mr P. Blanchfield) congratulated the club and its supporters on their successful season. He said that the League was looking forward to even more successful seasons, as with the provision of a new grandstand at Wingham Park in the next few months, every comfort would be offered the general public. The League hoped that the new stand would enable them to offer attractive guarantees to secure more visits from overseas and provincial teams. Dlr Blanchfield also expressed the League’s thanks to the Diarist Brothers for their continued interest and work for the boys’ teams, the referees, and the Press. The following toast list was honoured:—“The King and the Pope”; “The Clergy and Marist Brothers,” Dlr J. Stokes—Rev. Brother Kevin; “West Coast Rugby League,” Mr J. P. Gilbert—Mr P. Blanchfield ■junr.; “M. 8.0.8. League Club,” Mr P. Coll—Mr Griffen; “The Referees,” Dlr A. L. Donnelly—Mr H. Bassett; “Kindred Sports,” Mr A. Beban, junr. —Messrs L. Jackson (bowls), E. Flood (Soccer), N. Messenger (hockey), L Phillips (Rugby), F. Hill (boxing), R. Longstaff (yachting), J. Patterson (cricket), J. P. Mathews (golf), T. Anisy (tednis); “Club Supporters,” Mr P. Sweetman—Mr B. Smith; “The Press,” Dlr R. Pollock; “The Chairman,” Dlr Donnelly. During the evening, itews were given by Messrs Duffy, F. McGrath, L. Jackson, and P. Coll, while Mr Duffy led community singing. Messrs J. Paterson and Collitt were at the piano.
