A Prices Investigation Tribunal was set up consisting of the President and the secretary, and Messrs G. English and J. Brailsford, to record any fluctuations in prices of commodities, and it was decided to recommend to all affiliations that they immediately notify the secretary of any rise in their locality, so that action could be taken.
A vote of condolence with the relatives of the victims of the Huntly disaster was passed and a donation of £5 5/- was made to the appeal for assistance to the relatives of the disaster.
It was decided that a report on cooperative stores be brought down for the next Trades Council meeting. It was decided to protest against the enquiry into the Lyttelton tragedy being held in camera, and to request that the whole of the evidence be published. It was decided that a conference be arranged between the Council, the Alexander miners and the Inangahua miners, if possible at Reefton. It was stated officially that rumours that the Alexander Miners’ Union had been black listed were not correct. Nominations to sub-committees of the emergency precautions were: Law and Order, J. Doyle (sub. J. Panther); Communications, D. Faris (sub. J. Findlay). The report on emergency precautions will be submitted to the Central Executive at an early date.
