Mr. Eric Hanner will leave in the 55-foot schooner Valkyrie on October 1G to search, for a year for the woman flier, Mrs. Amelia Earhart Putnam, who disappeared on a trans-ocean flight in July, 1937. THETIS SALVAGE. LONDON, October 14. The Salvage Association has announced that operations on the submarine Thetis have reached the stage where attempts are being made with compressed air to expel the water from the main body of the submarine. These tests will reveal leakages, which must be located and made good before the vessel can be brought to the surface. SCOTTISH BY-ELECTION. . LONDON, October 14. BRITISH RAILWAY SMASH. LONDON, October 11. AL Bletchley, during a black-out. a railway collision occurred. It is announced four are dead and five injured. A number of bodies were buried in the wreckage and have not yet been extricated. The black-out restrictions were withdrawn in the vicinity. The station and a school were converted into a casualty clearing post.
