RAID ON TYNE FAILS
GERMAN ’PLANES SHOT DOWN. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, October 13. Four German airmen who landed at Copenhagen from a Danish steamer which picked them up in the North Sea, explained that they made a forced landing after their machines were damaged. They now ask to be released because they were rescued outside territorial waters. The airmen admitted that they were part of a squadron of 18 aeroplanes which attempted to bomb the Tyne area. They added that three British aircraft engaged their aeroplanes, shot them down near Tyneside, and then advised a Danish ship of their predicament.
