AMERICAN AUTHOR’S VIEWS. [by CABLE —PRuSB ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] NEW YORK, October 13. The American author and economist, Mr Hartley Grattan, who was. recently in Australia, has published a book called “The Deadly Parallel.” Ho declares that Mr Roosevelt is following President Wilson’s courseIf the United States goes to war the New 7 Deal will disappear as President Wilson’s “New’ Freedom” disappeared. Mr Grattan does not subscribe to the view’ that the war will see the end of the British Empire. He believes that the Empire’s potential and actual mrength precludes this, but that a general war will accelerate the trends which cun already be observed. India might suddenly and decisively gain her independence, Canada come firmer into the American orbit, and Australia and New Zealand would be likely to seek American protection if the United States is powerful. Nevertheless, he argues that the war is more likely to increase the Dominions’ status with Britain than result in the dissolution of the Empire.
