A distinguished New Zealand archaeologist, Dr. A. D Trendall, has been appointed professor of Greek at the University of Sydney. Dr. Trendall, who is 30 years of age, recently has been lecturing on his excavations in Italy and on Roman art at the four universities of New Zealand.—Press Assn. ’

Messrs G. C. Roberts and H. Waddell, who left on Saturday for Burnham, were farewelled at the Albion Hotel. Mr. Roberts was presented by the guests and staff with a wristlet watch. Mr. and Mrs. Dowell presented Mr. Roberts with a silver cigarette case, and Mr. Waddell with a set of hairbrushes.

The death occurred at the Christchurch Hospital, this morning, of Constable Joseph Moore, of Blackball. Deceased, who had been an inmate of the hospital for the past two months, was a native of Ireland, aged 39 years. He had been stationed at Blackball for about two years. He is survived by his Avife and a young family of one son and three daughters.
