CAR STRIKES LORRY

PASSENGER FATALLY INJURED.

PALMERSTON NORTH, July 17.

A motor accident, which occurred on the Lovin-Foxton highway to-night, resulted. in the death of Bertie Robert Way, married, proprietor of a garage at Foxton. Way was travelling as a passenger in a car driven by J. Hayfield, of Levin. It struck the rear of a stationary lorry in charge of T. J. A. Marchant. Just before the accident its lights fused, and the driver was endeavouring to make repairs. The impact was of terrific force, and tore the side out and a portion of the roOf. Way suffered shocking injuries. Hayfield escaped with slight cuts. The impact turned the lorry side on, and pushed it down a bank at the roadside.
